Fridays Are For One Question

Tonight is a big night for the Kelley family.

Tonight we uphold the long-held tradition when a child comes of age and then bravely throws his / her pacifier in the trash in exchange for a bribe from their parents.

This time, the child in question is Christian. The prize in question is a Buzz Lightyear that can live in his bed.

He thinks it’s a good idea… so far.

It’s tough to get rid of something like a pacifier when you’re a kid. But maybe it wasn’t a pacifier you held onto for security. So what was it?

Blanket?

Duckie?

Poor, mistreated pet dog?

That’s today’s question: What was your security item as a child?

Maybe you need to get the ball rolling and go first. Nobody seems brave enough to admit what their security item was. 🙂

I’m still seeing a therapist for having my pacifer, aka binky, taken away from me.

  • It was an old pillow, more of a little cushion, about 12″ across and only 3″ thick in its better days, thinner than that as time wore on. Not sure what ever happened to the thing. I loved the way it made a big poofy dust cloud when you hugged it, by my mother didn’t … so I have my own guesses about what happened to it.

    Take care & God bless

So, I was a thumb sucker. I asked for help with this when I was in the first grade because other kids were beginning to make fun. Since it couldn’t be taken away, a nasty-tasting mystery substance was applied until I stopped partaking of said thumb. My reward- which became the new security item- was a stuffed brown dog with a zipper in the middle which I could also use to store pajamas. You have to love a security item that also doubles as storage. I named the dog “Flash”- after Roscoe P. Coltrane’s dog on “The Dukes of Hazzard.” Perhaps such early exposure to the likes of Boss Hogg contributed to my need for a security item…
