As we were watching a TV show together yesterday morning, my 8 year old remarked: “Dad, why is there Memorial Day?”
I responded back with a question: “Why do you think there is?”
Joshua, after having watched about 3 rounds of commercials, said: “I’m pretty sure it’s about buying furniture.”
Hopefully this article, “10 Things to Remember About Memorial Day,” will clear up any further confusion. Some of my favorites:
1. It started with the Civil War
3. It was first known as Decoration Day
5. It was James Garfield’s finest hour—or maybe hour-and-a-half
