Fridays Are For One Question

You know what I did on Tuesday night?

This week I watched A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott all by myself. It was pretty awesome.

I laughed and laughed when it was Christmas morning and that old man started jumping up and down on his bed screaming, “The spirits did it all in one night!”

So that movie is going to have to go into the rotation. “What rotation?” you ask. Well, that would be the yearly Christmas movie rotation that Jana and I run through in December. There are, of course, the obvious choices like Miracle on 34th Street and Christmas Vacation. But then there are other less obvious Christmas movie choices.

So let’s talk holiday movies today: “What’s your favorite Christmas movie?”

How about “Family Man” or “29th Street”. And, of course, there’s little Ralphy in “A Christmas Story”

I like “It’s a Wonderful Life” but haven’t always “had” to see it every year. But this year my son, who is a senior in high school, asked if we’d be watching it on Christmas Eve this year. Yep, you can bet I’ll be listening to hear when Clarence gets his wings!

Evan and I saw “It’s a Wonderful Life” at the UVA movie theatre on our first date AND the druggist is named “Mr. Gower”- so we watch it every year, usually on the 23rd or 24th. A less-classic, more R-rated favorite is “Love, Actually.” If Evan is not around and I have an evening to myself, my chick-flick holiday favorites are “White Christmas” and “The Holiday.”

I like the MUPPETS CHRISTMAS CAROL and have the same reaction to the delight of the spirits doing it all in one night…that Scrooge has opportunity to make things right! I also like the delightful sillyness of the CLAYMATION CHRISTMAS SPECIAL, especially their rendition of Joy to the World.

A Christmas Story. Love the 24-hour marathon on TBS!

It’s hard to find anything better than “Ernest Saves Christmas.”

Mark and I love all those mentioned plus a beautiful, lesser-known muppet movie called Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. It’s kind of a muppet retelling of The Gift of the Magi. So sweet and the singing is delightful. Thankfully we have it on DVD. I don’t know when the last time was that I saw it on regular TV.

Mark would also like me to mention “Die Hard” because the setting is Christmas time. I mention it because he asked me to. As for me, I do not enjoy the “Die Hard” sagas . . . Christmas time setting or otherwise. 🙂
