Fridays Are For One Question

The Oscars are this Sunday. It’s like the Superbowl for the artsy crowd, and while I’m not particularly artsy, I’ll be watching. This year, there are 10 nominees for best picture.

10.

Seems like a little overkill to me, but I digress. Here is the list of nominees:

Avatar

The Blind Side

District 9

An Education

The Hurt Locker

Inglorious Basterds

Precious

A Serious Man

Up

Up in the Air

We could do the easy Friday question here and ask, “Which of these is the best picture?” but why do something so predictable? Let’s do the opposite.

Today’s question:

“Which one of these movies are you LEAST likely to vote for as best picture?”

**The goal of “One Question Friday” is simple: To show that everyone has something funny, engaging, creative, and worthwhile to say. So comment away! Be real. Be creative. Think hard. And check back to see how others answered the question.

    avatar. period.

  • Daryl says:

    District 9.
No movie that uses one vulgar word for half it’s dialogue should be given such an honor.
Besides, I think Avatar presented the same basic story in a much better way.

This is hard, because of this entire list, I’ve only seen Up. I’m going to save Avatar, though. Call it my lack of acting skills, but the whole CGI-as-character/setting…basically PLOT…thing doesn’t seem like it should hold up to other films.

  • Michael K. says:

I also will go with Avatar. I feel like it got enough Oscars when it was called “Dances with Wolves.”

  • Steve says:

YES! I was surprised Avatar received so much attention with such a very unoriginal plot. 3 hours of unoriginal too. It was 100% about the special effects. Maybe it should be winning technical awards and attention then, and not be contending with other films that have real acting and original writing in their making. I know I’m late to the game here, and Avatar didn’t win… but after I saw the movie I felt like I was taking crazy pills for not swooning over it like everyone else.
Dances with Wolves was the first thing to come to my mind as well. Funny.
